Jerry was a founding member of the firm in 2001. Coming from a very broad and general legal background, his practice now centers on employment litigation and commercial litigation. A Civil Trial Specialist certified by the Civil Litigation Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association, he has had extensive trial experience since being admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1967. He was selected as a Leading Minnesota Attorney in Alternative Dispute Resolution for employment law, commercial litigation, and personal injury. Jerry has also been recognized as a Super Lawyer by Minnesota Law and Politics magazine.

As a Special Assistant Attorney General, he litigated state tax cases in 1968 and 1969. Since then he has tried cases in a variety of areas, including contracts, securities, trade secrets, non-compete agreements, patent and trademark, criminal, dealer termination, sexual harassment, and wrongful termination.

Jerry has tried many complex commercial cases, and has argued numerous cases before the Minnesota Supreme Court. Some of the cases he handled have been written about in local and national legal periodicals. An author of numerous legal articles, he also lectured widely at legal education seminars to lawyers. Trade secret litigation, legal malpractice, sexual harassment, non-compete agreements, and whistleblowing are some of the subjects of these articles and lectures.

Ian Laurie represents employees and employers in all aspects of employment law. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota and the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Mr. Laurie represents employees, providing legal advice to those who have experienced a variety of difficulties on the job, as well as representing employees who have been fired from their jobs. He has represented employees in claims of sex discrimination, race discrimination, national origin discrimination, sexual preference discrimination, disability discrimination, civil rights violations, breach of contract, whistleblowing, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and other related claims. He also represents employees in unemployment hearings and claims involving noncompete agreements and other administrative proceedings.

He also represents employers or small businesses, providing them with legal advice on employment issues in an effort to prevent legal problems. Mr. Laurie has worked with employers to improve relations with existing employees by drafting employee handbooks and manuals.

Mr. Laurie earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism from Ohio University and graduated magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Prior to pursuing his law degree, Mr. Laurie was a marketing and promotions director for minor league sports teams.

After clerking at Laurie & Laurie, P.A. for three years during law school, Jon became the firm’s first Associate attorney in November 2004. He is admitted to practice before the Minnesota Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He represents clients in a variety of employment-related matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, non-competes, severance, unemployment appeals, and other general and business litigation.

Jon is a member of the American Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, and Hennepin County Bar Association. Mr. Sigelman earned a B.A. in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1999 and his J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2004. Prior to entering the legal field, Jon worked as an Associate Research Specialist in the Department of Psychology at UW, where he co-authored a research article published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
